Angels among us

If I had known how demanding, tiring, and time consuming getting your child diagnosed is I might not have done it. But that being said I am so glad I did. Our lives are so different than what they were 8 months ago. Isaac and Micah were both diagnosed with PDD-NOS (pervasive developmental delay- Not otherwise specified) If that sounds not very informative you are on the same page as I am. When you finally get someone to translate it from Swahili it basically means mild autism. I wish I could have seen my face when the first person suggested that my children had autism. My automatic reaction was, "you have got to be kidding me. My child DOES NOT have autism." But when I finally started listening to what the professionals were saying I realized that the autism spectrum is so broad that they don't really know that much about this diagnosis. But what they did say is that both of my boys have red flags that fall under the autistic spectrum and while they don't want to label them autistic they do want to get them the help they need. Since October when they both received the diagnosis Isaac has been in full time kindergarten 6 hours a day. He has since been moved to a PDD Kindergarten where he gets more one on one help but is also able to be with normally developing children. He loves school, has started to read, sings songs and laughs. Micah started Integrated Preschool with the school district and goes 2 times a week. After a month and a half I realized this wasn't enough and so after working with the teachers he will be moved to a PDD Preschool at the beginning of March. We are seeing so much success and are so grateful for the angels among us who have worked so hard on our behalf to take care of our little boys. I don't know a greater gift than that of success in life for your children.
