Dad, part II

In some ways I may not ever live up to my Dad's example. In others I'm already there. Here's the list of behaviors and mannerisms that make my wife say "your just like your dad".
  • While reading in bed I say "Huh, that's interesting." And then wait until Natalie asks me to elaborate before I describe what I'm reading.
  • I could eat oatmeal three meals a day and not complain.
  • I walk every where.
  • I count things. Anyone can listen to the high school marching band, my dad's the only one in the stands who knows exactly how many members the band has. What do you mean you don't know how may slices of bread there are in a loaf? How are you going to know how many sandwiches you can make without counting the slices first?
  • I read obscure things. My favorite engineering text is one from the 1950s that I found in the "free" pile at school, and I just finished a history of whaling in America. I don't do it to be weird either, I actually find this stuff interesting.
I'll leave trying to untangle which of these behaviors is attributable to genetics and which to upbringing to freshmen psychology students. I'll just note that I would be happy if I could pass off some of these to my own sons.

I think your Dad is AWESOME! He practiced his talents on Bob, perfected them on you! You have a great example in Charlie & it shows when I see you with your boys! Someday, they'll be writing nice tributes to you! Good job
