Ben and I came back from Isaac's IEP meeting on Wednesday humbled. If you are unfamiliar with IEP's they are an Individual Education Plan that is specifically catered to a special education child. After some quick math we realized that our child was receiving one on one help in school from at least 7 people directly during his day. Many more are constantly working with Isaac as well. We are not the norm. I have heard so many different situations where families are struggling to get their child's needs met at school. We are amazed constantly by how much his teachers honestly care about our child and are working hard to enable him to be successful at school. And with that preface I would like to give you a glimpse into the amazing changes we have seen in Isaac this last year. Isaac can read. He spends time reading almost everyday at home. His favorite books to look at now are Calvin and Hobbes. He will look and try to read them for at least 20 minutes in a row. If you know Isaac well, a year ago he couldn't concentrate on anything for 20 minutes. Isaac is in the top 2% of his kindergarten in Math. They did the end of year evaluation and he received a 65/68. Isaac is now drawing pictures that make sense and are not just scribbles. He is interacting with his classmates and initiating appropriate conversations. These are things that I would not have believed could happen last year. He is a caring, happy, and controlled child now and we are so proud of how hard he has worked. To those who have had a hand in this we cannot express are gratitude enough.
(showing off his teeth. Kind of a weird picture!)

Well, this warms my heart. It's nice to know there are good people out there who are willing to help your kids so much :) Congratulations to Isaac on such tremendous achievements!
That is so amazing! I'm so glad you got people to spend one on one time with him so he can be successful. Teachers should earn so much more than they do.
