Ode to Ben..... variations on a theme.

As I lay in bed somewhat discombobulated at 4:30 in the morning watching my husband climb out of bed to take care of our sick Isaac, a distinct thought came to me. I have it good. I don't know if I tell him enough how much I appreciate him, so of course I will humiliate him by doing it publicly! I want it recorded in time that his wife knew how good she had it! So the few people and maybe a stray cat that read this thing, bear with me and I promise to entertain.

A long time ago, this walked into my apartment. And though most of the girls noticed how blue his eyes are or the dimples when he smiles, I admit all I saw was his height. Then three seconds later I noticed that other stuff too. And as it goes the rest is history. I remember thinking how lucky I was that I had found someone that had so many things in common with me. (insert hysterical laughter) We do indeed have a lot of interests in common but I think it is our differences that make us work.... and bust up laughing at each other.  So I have decided to list some of the many things I admire about this loveable man in an attempt to brag, in a nice way, about the wonderful man I get to spend time with on a regular basis.

(losing those shorts was bitter sweet. Bitter for you, sweet for me!)

1. He has the funniest hysterical laugh. It includes not breathing and tears.
(if you have seen it you will break into a smile here!)
2. He is an incredible father. His children can't get enough of him.
3. He is supportive of my feelings, those nasty weepy little things.
4. He works hard to keep his family happy. (lets his wife buy real christmas trees)
5. He eats what I cook and thanks me for the meal afterwards.
6.He did the dishes for the first 4 years of our marriage because I just couldn't figure out how to do them myself!
7. He forgives my imperfections in housekeeping.
8. He keeps his promises.
9. He loves his mom.
10. He talks to me when he is fast asleep.

Now to the real reason for this post. Last night I went to check on a screaming Micah at about 12. He wakes up from time to time screaming and usually just goes back to bed. When I went to crawl into bed, Ben rolls over and asks most seriously, "Did you get the 69 outputs on the blankets?" It was kind of slurred so I asked him to repeat himself. By the 5th time he was quite upset that I was not understanding him and I was trying very hard not to laugh. It didn't work and I started laughing hysterically. He then started laughing but was still kind of out of it. I told him he was talking to his wife not a coworker. He gave an exhasperated sigh and said, " I know that, but I don't understand why you don't know what I am talking about."

This has happened a couple times before. The most memorable being when he asked if I had my gun and then proceeded to get angry at me when I said I didn't.

So thank you honey for keeping my life full. Full of fun, full of love and especially full of LAUGHTER!

Now you (the world) knows why I love my daughter-in-law. Things a mother likes to hear.

Obviously that sly grin hid the fact that he came from a long line of sleep talkers.
